THE LAZY ENVIRONMENTALIST, hosted by Josh Dorfman, screens Tuesdays at 9PM on Sundance Channel.

Working with John Tran, the mayor of Rosemead, CA, was particularly fascinating. To be sure, The Lazy Environmentalist typically focuses on helping individuals conveniently make environmentally conscious choices that fit their lifestyles. However, this same philosophy can also be applied to a town or city. In fact, sometimes the best way to help people easily and enjoyably reduce their environmental impact is to focus on making changes at the municipal level. For example, Rosemead’s recycling rates are very low; only about 25% of recyclable trash is diverted from the landfill and actually recycled. So in “Lazy Mayor” I present Mayor Tran with a municipal recycling solution that can lower the town’s costs while also making it easy, convenient, and financially rewarding for Rosemead residents to sort the recycling in their homes. It’s the kind of win-win-win solution that saves taxpayer money, financially incentives people to participate in environmental action, and benefits the planet in two major ways: 1) it reduces greenhouse gas emissions and 2) it reduces our demand for virgin natural resources from which to make new products.

Throughout this segment I’m focused on finding cost-effective ways to reduce Rosemead’s greenhouse gas emissions. The goal is to get Mayor Tran excited enough about these possibilities to endorse the U.S. Conference of Mayor’s Climate Protection Agreement which commits towns and cities across the country to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by 20% by over current levels 2012. It’s a stretch goal that compels communities and their leaders to embrace change immediately and not just come up with plans to reduce emissions by some distant date when those leaders will no longer be accountable because they’ll no longer be in office. To date, 944 mayors out of approximately 6,000 have signed the agreement. Such politicians represent the vanguard of real change.

You’ll have to watch the episode to see what Mayor Tran thinks about all this. At one point, we also get to hear the opinions of town residents. And this for me was the truly inspiring moment of the segment because we had succeed in creating a political opening for an environmental dialogue to occur in a town where that is far from the norm. One woman in attendance took the opportunity to push for more bike trails and designated bike lanes on roads. One man proposed revisiting the town’s building codes to make sure buildings were adhering to green principles. Another person wanted to know what could be done to educate the children of Rosemead about environmental issues. And on it went with citizens voicing substantial environmental concerns and also offering really good green ideas.

Ultimately, for me this episode was eye-opening in terms of what it really takes to move positive environmental change through the political process. And I appreciate the opportunity to experience these kinds of moments because it serves as a reminder that there are millions of people across this country in all types of communities who are passionate about the environmental cause and want leaders who will be responsive.

Buzzirk Mobile Energy Conservation Career. You Have A More Cost-Effective Way To Reach A Billion People?_Green Earl

Our sister blog, CLICK ABOVE IN TITLE Does not get
the traffic yet, that this blog gets. I've produced
hundreds of article and post under this banner in
regards to conservation, solar and wind and other
devices and forms of renewable energy. This blog,
though not as glitzy maybe as some is pretty
highly regarded in the search engines of Google,
as my thoughts and 30 years in the industry are, I
believe.

Hundreds of thousands of people from all over the
world search the pages of Google daily for careers
in conservation. A recent search of Google on the
search term 'ENERGY CONSERVATION CAREERS' brought
this blog up..on Page 1 #6 of 10, Organic of over
30,600,000 related links. I'm kinda happy about it.

Funny though..under that term..only several paid for
click ads...the rest are organic...which for me here
is fine. Over about 60% of all world wide searches
for information are completed using Google Search
Engines and 85% of the people that come to a page
like the one I mention above, click on the Generic
or Organic choice #1 thru #10 per page, rather than
the pay per click, (paid advertisements) anyway.

Those of you that are still with me at this point..
I tell you all this to make a point...here it is.

Now, do a search of this term 'BUZZIRK MOBILE' and
notice, if you would, the number of PAID advertisers
wanting to reach you with their message. Could be
357,000 links or more..but remember this, this company
just launched July 1st. Today's only the July 10th.
and last count I heard was 26,000 customers and
resellers. Folks..isn't that an average of 2,600
a day becoming involved in this business..You must
ask yourself...SELF...What do these 26,000 folks
know, or think they know...that I don't?

Though I must admit, perhaps divine intervention was
involved, or maybe it was that stupid YANKEE LUCK...
The same luck that fell on the first Californians...
who benefited from the State of California becoming
an American Territory taken from Mexico and then
benefited by discovering Gold some 14 years later,
in 1848.

But like many of you searching the these and other
pages of the internet for opportunities, many of
those searches end in fruitless efforts. Projects
without merit, in many cases pushed by what you
may perceive is the "biggest and the best" ie:
some big utility company like PG&E. You don't
know what my thirty years in the business has
taught me over and over again. Just like Bank of
America, all of them crooked as a dogs hind leg.

And you, or folks awful similar to you, will line
up around three city blocks to get one of a dozen
jobs, that will allow you to live from pay check
to pay check. Go to work for GM now. They are
advertising now, and proud of it, that their benefits
now compare to those of the Japan car makers. This
is something to brag about?

Anyway, you just don't get what I'm laying down
here, do you? I HAVE A ENERGY CONSERVATION CAREER
FOR YOU...you will, or can, if you'll work, earn
more part-time than many who work 16 hours a day
at two jobs, to survive or get ahead. But you may
not see it at first glance...but a service that
takes wireless UNLIMITED EVERYTHING, voice, data,
text, internet at a low flat rate and delivers it
around the world to 40 countries...nothing else,
besides this type of technology, COULD BE MORE
ENERGY EFFICIENT...Nothing can CONSERVE MORE ENERGY,
TIME AND MONEY, the movement of information..THE
REAL POWER. Ever hear information is power?
Information, delivered at lightning speed around
the planet, is not only possible...It is being done.
And those that help deliver this important product
that maybe we don't hunger for, anymore, but the
world certainly does...those that help will become
wealthy...Plain and Simple. Were not talking corner
store here. We're talking WalMart...Global Markets.

You must all think this is some kind of a ding-dong
deal, or my sister site and blog would be burning
up right now. I advise you to think about what you
just read..this is not my first Rodeo guys..Go To:

http://latestbuzzirkmobilenewsandcommentary.blogspot.com/

Look around, go down and read the older post..Click
on the links and listen to the recorded and live
calls...and remember this...

SOME PEOPLE MAKE THINGS HAPPEN...SOME PEOPLE WATCH
THINGS HAPPEN..BUT, SADLY, MOST PEOPLE JUST WAKE UP
ONE DAY AND WONDER..."WHAT THE HELL JUST HAPPENED?"

If you read this far, and do as I suggest..this will
not be you, this time._Global Green Earl

Derrick: I don't think it was mentioned during the campaign, but it did come up during the House debate. Some members love it, but politically it has very limited support. Waxman and Markey did yeoman's work to get a bill passed that still has a robust emission reduction target in it. With a 17% emission reduction goal by 2020, that goal is stronger than what Obama campaigned on during the election (14% reduction by 2020).
it isn't that the CO2 cap and trade is impossible compared to an SO2 cap and trade. The issue is that it is just magnitudes bigger and with vastly more money involved than the SO2. It's like comparing the organization behind your local kids' tee-ball league to Major League Baseball. Same concept, just amped up to such a big scale as to make a whole new set of problems to deal with.
For me, the idea is to keep my eye on the prize...the underlying emission reduction goal and whether or not the bill can realistically achieve its own goal. In this case, the goal of a 17% redcution by 2020, and an 83% reduction by 2050 (more than the IPCC's recommendation of 80%) is the clincher for me. We're not going to have a more favorable political climate next year (Congressional election year), and certainly not the following year to do this kind of legislation. Starting over with all the same members makes no sense - I can't believe that anyone seriously entertains the idea that if you put the same people in the room to work on the same issues, that anything vastly different from Waxman / Markey would emerge. So it isn't perfect, but it is a step forward and for me, that makes it worthy of support.

On Thu, Jul 9, 2009 at 1:43 PM, Derrick Gibson wrote:

Weeks ago, I was enthusiastically celebrating the passage of the first bill from the US House to even posit the reduction of emissions of CO2; today, I read that what I thought was victory, was but mere, cruel hoax.

Across almost two-years of campaigning, I heard much talk of "cap and trade", so much so that I bought into it as a pathway to resolving our carbon conundrum. Now, I read this article from the scientist who introduced us all to climate change and it includes another concept: "fee and dividend".

Did I miss this conversation during the campaign season? Was this approach outlined by Al Gore and I just forgot? Why have we invested so much effort in cap and trade, if this approach is doomed to failure? How could a successful cap and trade program be created for SO2, but doing so for CO2 remain an impossibility?

I need input from the experts on this. I am seeking a political position to support and I would prefer that my efforts not be in vain.

The couple also threw a mattress out the window, but a hotel manager came to the room before they could jump.

Omaba Army. Action Alert. Our President Is Asking For Your Help On Healthcare

Solar, Wind, Bio, Energy News And Commentary By_Green Earl, 30 year Pioneer In Conservation & Solar Energy

Dear Green Earl --

As we speak, key committees in Congress are weighing options and making final decisions about how to tackle health care reform. This could be one of the last opportunities to shape the legislation before it's written.

The behind-the-scenes committee negotiations aren't front-page news, but the lobbyists trying to block reform are following every detail, and they won't miss a day. If the final plan is to uphold President Obama's principles of reduced costs, guaranteed choice -- including a robust public insurance option -- and quality care for all, your voice must be heard.

Please call your senators right now and ask them to support President Obama's three principles for real health care reform. Our records show that you live in California. Please call:

Senior Senator Dianne Feinstein at 202-224-3841

Junior Senator Barbara Boxer at 202-224-3553

Make sure to click here to let us know what happened.

(Not your representatives? Click here to look them up.)

These calls are an easy but powerful way to make a difference. Just tell whoever answers the phone that you're a constituent (mention what city you're calling from), and that you're counting on your senator to support real health care reform, which must:

* Reduce costs
* Guarantee a choice of plans and doctors -- including the choice of a robust public insurance option
* Ensure quality, affordable care for every American

The opponents of real reform have deep pockets and insider access, and they're holding nothing back in their drive to derail progress before the plans go public.

Your call, right now, can help remind your representatives that the American people are counting on them to stand up to special interests and deliver the comprehensive reform we so desperately need.

Thanks for all that you do,

Mitch

Mitch Stewart

P.S. -- These calls are a vital first step. Stay tuned for other critical ways to organize locally and make a difference in this campaign. We can only win this thing if we all work together every step of the way.

T. Boone Picken's Army Is On The March_Green Earl

Solar, Wind, Bio, Energy News And Commentary By_Green Earl, 30 year Pioneer In Conservation & Solar Energy Army,

Dear Green Earl:

Ok. We have a lot going on and I want to spend a few minutes sharing it all with you.

As you know, today -- July 8 -- is the first anniversary of the introduction of the Pickens Plan. We have been on the road for about 170 days over that period to 38 states, and have talked to tens of thousands of people in meetings ranging from one-on-one's with Senators Obama and McCain to standing-room-only halls for Town Meetings.

I'm calling today "Energy Independence Day." Many of you have planned rallies and events in celebration of Energy Independence Day and you should share those events by entering the Pickens Plan Video Contest.

Let's not make this a one-day deal. Let's make every July 8th Energy Independence Day. That will help our national and state leaders remember that we are importing too much foreign oil and we have the resources right here at home to protect our environment, our economy and our national security.

Next thing. The Senate version of the NAT GAS Act was introduced today by New Jersey Senator Robert Menendez -- he was joined by Utah Senator Orrin Hatch and Senate Majority Leader Reid. This important bill joins its House of Representatives companion (H.R. 1835) that was introduced April 1 and already has 70 bi-partisan co-sponsors.

Just like the House version, the Senate version of the NAT GAS Act will provide incentives for consumers, commercial truckers, and state and local governments to aggressively move from using vehicles burning polluting, imported gasoline and diesel to vehicles running on clean, domestic natural gas.

I need you to contact your two United States Senators today and tell them they need to get on board and co-sponsor the NAT GAS Act. For those House members not already co-sponsors, keep on them as well. You can go to this link to use our online letter. You can also call the main switchboard at the U.S. Capitol at 202-224-3121 and ask for your Member of Congress or Senator and the operator will connect you. It's important that you call your Congress Member and a Senator from your state -- that way they'll know we're serious.

Last thing. Our new ad is up on the Pickens Plan website -- click here to view it. It's every bit as good as our previous ads which have been very powerful and very effective.

Energy Independence Day -- today and every July 8th going forward until we've achieved that goal.

The army is on the march!

-- Boone

Your help is needed today to protect the Grand Canyon from new uranium mining.

Solar, Wind, Bio, Energy News And Commentary By_Green Earl, 30 year Pioneer In Conservation & Solar Energy

Your help is needed today to protect the Grand Canyon from new uranium mining.

Global energy markets have caused a sharp increase in uranium-mining claims and exploration on public lands near Grand Canyon National Park. New uranium development threatens to degrade wildlife habitat, industrialize otherwise wild and iconic landscapes, and contaminate the water that feeds the Grand Canyon's springs and the Colorado River -- water that means survival to millions of people and to the Grand Canyon's most unique and endangered species.

Yet Congress' attempts to address those threats have gone ignored. In June 2008, the House Committee on Natural Resources invoked a rarely used legal provision to prohibit new mining claims and exploration across 1 million acres of public lands surrounding Grand Canyon National Park for three years. But the Bureau of Land Management has deliberately ignored Congress' order and continues to authorize new uranium exploration within the protected area.

The Grand Canyon deserves better. Please join us in calling on Interior Secretary Ken Salazar to enact protections to prevent new uranium claims and exploration around Grand Canyon National Park -- and to require the Bureau of Land Management to conduct rigorous new reviews for old mines to ensure that they adhere to the highest levels of federal environmental compliance.

Click here to find out more and take action.

If you have trouble following the link, go to http://salsa.democracyinaction.org/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=vwJeq4kgefAU1PynG3fqD7Mqrfro36wu.

Sample letter:

Subject: Protect the Grand Canyon From New Uranium Mining

I am writing to ask you to protect the Grand Canyon from uranium mining. Public lands surrounding the Grand Canyon have seen a sharp increase in new uranium-mining claims and exploration in recent years. Efforts are also underway to reopen old mines north and south of the Grand Canyon.

New uranium exploration and mining has the potential to hurt species, ecosystems, water quality, and tourism in and around Grand Canyon National Park. Aquifer contamination, were it to result from new uranium development, could impact municipal uses of the Colorado River in addition to special status species and biologically rich seep, spring, and riparian ecosystems within Grand Canyon National Park.

Uranium development would industrialize the wild and iconic landscapes flanking Grand Canyon National Park. New roads, mining facilities, vehicle access, and traffic would harm ecosystems and wildlife while hurting tourism by degrading park visitors' experiences. Finally, uranium development would occur over the objections and cultural beliefs of American Indians who hold the greater Grand Canyon area sacred.

For these reasons, I am asking that you issue an administrative mineral withdrawal to protect public lands surrounding Grand Canyon National Park from new uranium-mining claims and exploration. Please also ensure that any effort to reopen old mines is subject to rigorous new environmental and public reviews and the highest levels of federal environmental compliance.

Thank you for your consideration.

Please take action by October 1, 2009.

Donate now to support our work.

Dear Green Earl

My memory is going...I read someone's request for info on small, home-sized wind turbines, I think in Texas maybe ?? but for the life of me I cannot remember which group or member's page I read it on...so, I apologize for the unsolicited info but hopefully this gets to the right person(s).

Have a great day and Keep the Faith. Its always darkest before the dawn.Rome wasn't built in a day...etc etc. You get the picture. We have a loooong road ahead. If you ask me, the 2nd Most Important thing that the members of this site will do is to teach our children the importance of building a coalition of like-minded people to make things happen, and to get them to understand how important Green Technology is. They are our Future and even though we have screwed up their planet, they will be in a better place because of what we have started here and on similar sites than they would have been. Let the naysayers and the 'can't do its' have their 5minutes but in the end I guarantee we WILL have accomplished great things here...even though it appears that politics is exactly what we thought it was....smoke and mirrors....

Small wind turbines are electric generators that utilize wind energy to produce clean, emissions-free power for individual homes, farms, and small businesses. With this simple and increasingly popular technology, individuals can generate their own power and cut their energy bills while helping to protect the environment. The U.S. leads the world in the production of small wind turbines, which are defined as having rated capacities of 100 kilowatts and less, and the market is expected to continue strong growth through the next decade.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- Environmentalists using park service rock anchors scaled Mount Rushmore on Wednesday and unfurled a banner along President Abraham Lincoln's face challenging America's leaders to stop global warming.

Eleven people were charged with trespassing and the misdemeanor crime of climbing on Mount Rushmore National Monument, U.S. Attorney Marty Jackley said. They pleaded not guilty to all charges.

The environmental group Greenpeace said in a statement that three of its members hung the banner on Mount Rushmore while other activists blocked access to the site. Greenpeace said the climbers, using existing rock anchors that the park service uses for occasional cleanings, went up the back of the monument, then rappelled down its face to unfurl a 65-by-35-foot banner reading, "America honors leaders not politicians: Stop Global Warming."

Jackley said he could not confirm Greenpeace's account.

Mount Rushmore Ranger Nav Singh said security warnings and tourists alerted officials when the banner was unrolled. The banner was removed about an hour after it was unfurled.

"You can't create any security system that's 100 percent fail-safe. There's just not enough resources for that," Singh said. "Determined individuals that are properly equipped and willing to do damage to government property can do this sort of thing."

Twelve people were taken away in handcuffs and foot chains. The 12th person taken into custody was released without being charged, Jackley said. He would not say why.

The National Park Service said in a statement that its staff and security detected the activists early and responded "within minutes." Visitors were not in danger, authorities said.

Park service staff remained at the mountain Wednesday to assess damage to the sculpture and security systems. When asked about possible damage, Jackley said the activists had not been charged with property damage, but he noted that the investigation was ongoing.

The 60-foot-high faces of four U.S. presidents - Lincoln, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and Theodore Roosevelt - are carved into the granite on the southeast face of Mount Rushmore in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Together, the faces extend 185 feet.

A number of demonstrations have taken place at Mount Rushmore over the years. In the early 1070s, American Indian Movement members tried several times to occupy and deface the monument. In August 1970, AIM members hung a banner with the words "Sioux Indian Power" on the monument.

In October 1987, Greenpeace activists tried unsuccessfully to unfurl a banner shaped like a gas mask over George Washington's face. That banner said, "We the People Say No to Acid Rain."

Security measures were beefed up after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

The 11 activists charged Wednesday were released on their own recognizance after the court hearing. The activists were from eight states - California, Connecticut, Illinois, Minnesota, Montana, New Mexico, North Carolina and New York. A trespassing conviction carries up to six months in prison and a $5,000 fine, prosecutors said.

Obama on Smart Grid: No longer about jobs
posted at 3:08 pm on July 8, 2009 by Ed Morrissey

Stung by the utter failure of Porkulus to stem the tide of joblessness, the Obama administration has quietly dropped its “jobs” argument for funding federal projects. ABC’s Rick Klein notices that the Smart Grid project, one of the most highly touted programs for job creation by Barack Obama and Joe Biden, has had that requirement removed:

When Vice President Joe Biden announced a new $3.3 billion grant program to upgrade the nation’s electricity network, the rationale was simple: “This is jobs — jobs,” he said in April.

But the Obama administration is now saying it will not take the potential for job creation into account in “rating” proposed projects for possible funding — after initially saying that would be a primary consideration.

In April, when the Energy Department first announced regulations for companies that wish to apply for “Smart Grid Investment Grants,” “job creation and retention” was among the explicit criteria. …

But late last month, the department quietly modified the criteria to take the job piece out. As the department explained in a June 26 set of Frequently Asked Questions:

“These criteria differ significantly from those presented within the [Notice of Intent]. First, DOE removed the criterion on the extent of jobs creation and now will require applicants, as stipulated within the Recovery Act, to report quarterly on the number of jobs created and retained.”

It’s not hard to understand why this got pulled, especially given the timing. By the end of June, the Obama administration had realized that unemployment continued to rise despite all of the pork projects it had funded through Porkulus. The next week’s report from the BLS showed joblessness rising to 9.5%, proving that the Porkulus approach wouldn’t work to create jobs at all.

Now the White House wants to make it all about the technology. That’s fine; the national electrical grid needs revamping, and it’s one of the few projects in Porkulus that will help build a stronger private sector by securing the electrical and electronic infrastructure, as well as eventually saving energy. But their retreat from “jobs, jobs, jobs,” shows that the White House understands that they own rising unemployment, and that their program isn’t helping to stem it at all.

Of course, it’s difficult to trust economic policy to someone who can’t even count the letters in the word “jobs”, as we saw last October:

Not just words and speeches–words of hope and speeches about change. Words and speeches that may not create jobs, but will achieve something far more important: Inspire us to believe in ourselves as the change we have been waiting for and the hope that yes we can bring change.

This inspiration will warm us as we huddle jobless around barrels of burning, worthless dollars.

How about Nucs… and changing our Transportation grip over to Compressed Natural Gas? As we have TONS of CNG in this country, and any car can be converted to run on it for less than $1000 with already existing technology….

oh, and CNG runs cleaner with less CO2 if we need that as an argument…

Romeo13 on July 8, 2009 at 4:13 PM

It IS possible to run vehicles on Compressed Natural Gas. But natural gas is usually available at low pressure. It takes some energy input to compress it, and fuel tanks need to have thicker, heavier walls to resist the pressure, whereas gasoline is liquid at atmospheric pressure, and contains more energy per gallon.

Another problem with Compressed Natural Gas is that filling stations need to have airtight hoses, connections, and valves between the supply tank and vehicle tank to prevent leakage and pressure loss. While this may be feasible for commercial vehicles or buses, where professionally-trained technicians could fill the tanks, self-service natural gas filling stations could present a safety hazard to people used to inserting low-pressure gasoline nozzles into liquid tanks, and not worried about high pressures.

The Honorable Max Baucus
The Honorable Chuck Grassley
Committee on Finance
United State Senate
Washington, DC 20510

RE: Alternative Fuel Mixture Tax Credit

Dear Senators Baucus and Grassley,

I make my living working for PAPER COMPANY in the forest products industry. I am extremely proud that our industry is the leading producer and user of renewable biomass energy in the nation. That’s why I am concerned that you are considering disqualifying black liquor, a renewable biomass byproduct of the paper-making process, from eligibility for the alternative fuels mixture tax credit. Disqualifying black liquor from credit eligibility would threaten the health of our industry and jeopardize the good-paying “green” jobs it provides.

Black liquor is a renewable biomass fuel used by pulp mills to produce electricity and heat, thus making it possible for those facilities to generate approximately 66 percent of their energy needs onsite. Using black liquor for fuel avoids fossil fuel use and, unlike fossil fuel, black liquor is carbon neutral-thus providing exactly the kind of environmentally friendly energy that the alternative fuel mixture tax credit was designed to encourage. In fact, the energy we produce from biomass exceeds the total energy produced from solar, wind and geothermal power combined.

You need to preserve the eligibility of forest products facilities to receive this credit not only because of the industry’s contribution to renewable energy production but also because good paying jobs, like mine, could be lost by this action. The economic downturn has caused a dramatic decline in demand for consumer goods, which in turn has caused an historic decline in demand for paper, packaging and building materials. The forest products industry has already lost 300,000 workers since 2006: a quarter of its workforce. When mills close, manufacturing jobs are lost, and the renewable energy they produce is lost, too.

I urge you not to revoke this important tax credit. By maintaining black liquor’s eligibility, you are supporting renewable energy production and “green” manufacturing jobs.

Sincerely,

James

Problem is that they are doing it backwards.

They should use tax incentives to put in the PUMPS. Because if there are not enough pumps nationwide, you CAN’T buy the truck…

As usual, they try to do things backwards, which means it will not work.

I agree. But I changed all my farm equipment over and I run off of high Pressure CNG. (you need the compressor at home too.) But every business with local delivery should convert their fleet. How many local companies go more than 70/100 miles per day? You don’t NEED the fuel station if you have the plug at the business already.

My mechanic worked for the local gas company and they have always had their fleet run on CNG.

Smart Grid will enable smart monitoring and smart control of your energy usage. That means de facto rationing for non-essential uses, such as air conditioning or whatever gubmit bureaucrats decide is ‘non-essential’. It means differential charges for power for peak versus non-peak times of day/week and seasons of the year. So maybe your power will cost $5/KWh from 10:00 PM-6:00 AM in winter, but $10/KWh at night in summer (air conditioning), and $20/KWh in summer during normal daytime business hours.

Their Smart Grid will enable them to monitor your household thermostat (and eventually other appliances), so if they feel you’re using too much heat in winter, or too much air in summer, they can levy a prohibitive surcharge.

“…the Obama administration had realized that unemployment continued to rise despite because of all of the pork projects it had funded through Porkulus.”

Fixed it.

Not only has it not helped job creation, it’s caused job loss. Businesses see what’s going on, and the uncertainty surrounding the economy and this administrations taxation, spending, nationalization (past and future) have business owners cutting back, curtailing hiring, etc.

Midas on July 8, 2009 at 7:54 PM

I love this part… Oil, and especially gasoline, are unmatched for a few key reasons:
-
Availability
Portability
Energy Density
Safety
Price
Infrastructure
Ease of use by consumers
Adaptability
-
Until something better at most of these and any important ones that I missed comes along, everything else will be second fiddle. The world uses 85,000,000 barrels per day for a reason.
-
Most, if not all the renewable energy sources are storage dependant; they require storage capacity so peak production times can be used to buffer low/no production times. Also, to use in modes of transport, portable storage is kinda a must.
-
Wind and solar are fine examples of this. Storage is really the key for both of those. Safe, portable, adaptable, high energy density storage that is easy to use and low in price is what is needed to displace oil as king. After we have that, any energy source can be use to fill the storage container. (Gee… Energon Cubes… Awesome!)
-
Oh… and one more thing, if it’s batteries, lots of non-eco-friendly chemicals are needed… Lots (for you Prius drivers).
-
I now return you to your regularly scheduled “Biden is a Moron” thread.
-
Thank you

RalphyBoy on July 8, 2009 at 8:12 PM

By the end of June, the Obama administration had realized that unemployment continued to rise despite all of the pork projects it had funded through Porkulus.

Considering the unemployment rate is now higher than Obama’s team had projected it would be without a stimulus, can we now say that unemployment has risen so much because of porkulus?

Porkulus is like trying to treat a cancer patient with only pain medication. It may cover up the symptoms for a while, but it doesn’t fix the problem. And every employer in the country knows it.
