If you have not seen last night's Special Comment on Countdown last night, you must watch this. It is an emotional, hard-hitting non-partisan (a first for Kieth Olberman!) speech on what is wrong with the heathcare system in this country, why it must be fixed -and now!- and why people on both sides of the issue have approached this in the wrong way. I am as guilty of this as anyone. It is, as I stated above, not a partisan speech; it is a personal account of recent experiences with the heathcare industry and a personal plea for the people of America to come together on this issue and stop the robber barons (health insurance companies) from continuing to squeeze the life (sometimes literally) out of the citizens of our nation.
Even as I write this, even as you read it, people are dying in this country because they do not have insurance - or, in some cases, because they have insurance and still cannot afford the care that is available and that could sav e their lives. It is a plea for the people of America to come together and fight for life. It asks us to join together and fight for our own lives, for the lives of our friends, loved ones, and neighbors, and for the lives of countless total strangers.
Please, no matter what you think of the issue right now, no matter which party you vote (or don't vote) for, please watch this video. And please pass it along. It puts everything into perspective in a way that I have not heard anyone do before. I thought I was already well-educated on this issue, but I learned quite a bit by watching this. It is a wake-up call for us all.
