It's all about money. Big companies still didn't care about the environment until this oil spill happened and the states went crazy with anger. Everyone is now talking about how they can save the planet. Turning down air conditioners and heaters, buying energy star rated appliances, recycling water with grey water systems, etc. I'm glad it happened finally but am disappointed we had to have a huge disaster to bring about change. America is slow to break bad habits.
